JESSICA MILLER TOMLINSON WINS

A.W.A.R.D. SHOW! 2009: CHICAGO

Thodos Dance Chicago’s senior dancer/choreographer Jessica Miller Tomlinson, whose newest work will be seen in the Company’s upcoming New Dances 2009, was one of twelve choreographers selected to present works at The A.W.A.R.D. Show! 2009: Chicago. The show was presented at the Dance Center of Columbia College June 24 through 27. Ms. Tomlinson was selected as a top three finalist through audience voting and was awarded the grand prize of $10,000 on the final evening for her work, Forget What You Came For?, danced by Thodos ensemble members Jeremy Blair, Brian Hare, Mollie Mock and Christine Marie Rohde.

The A.W.A.R.D. Show! (Artists With Audiences Responding to Dance) was founded in 2006 by New York-based choreographer Neta Pulvermacher as a way for choreographers to engage in open dialogue with the audience about their work. The show, produced by The Joyce Theater Foundation, started out as an annual series in New York City. This year The Dance Center at Columbia College, along with two additional presenters in Philadelphia and Seattle, was invited to expand this concept on a broader scale. The choreographers who presented works in this year’s performances were selected by representatives from The Joyce and the host organizations.
