Thodos Dance Chicago presented its second annual Fall concert at the Athenaeum Theatre. Serving as an opener to the popular Dance Chicago festival of which Thodos Dance Chicago is an active participant, making over a dozen appearances during the month-long event.
Thodos Dance Chicago’s October performances featured:
-The Chicago premiere of Shapiro & Smith's Dance With Two Army Blankets, dedicated in celebration
of the life of the late Danial Shapiro
-Lar Lubovitch's Waiting for the Sunrise, inspired by the 1950's and set to music of that time
-A thrilling collaboration between Fulcrum Point New Music, Stephen Burns Artistic Director, and Thodos Dance Chicago; choreographed by Melissa Thodos and set to music composed by Pulitzer Prize winner Shulamit Ran and performed by flautist Mary Stopler
-Along the Way, a moving and hypnotic new work from Artistic Associate Brock Clawson
-Angela Pawlicki's Restraint, hailed by The Chicago Sun-Times as "a mysterious and powerful dance that echoes the work of dance pioneer Alwin Nikolais"
-The Company premiere of travail, a mesmerizing aerial dance.
